the correlation between the sculptor Lucien den Arend's sculptures and his Land Art

Is there a correlation between the awareness of the implications of society's concern for environmental problems and the emergence of land art?

Which precedes the other? Is it the perception of artists which first noticed the importance of our environment over that of only gaining from it? In the late sixties of last century there was little concern for the environment in terms of wasting natural resources and irreparably altering our environment.

With his land art in the Flevo Polder, the sculptor wanted to make use of the specific flat and geometrically laid out landscape near Lelystad Holland.

The effects of consumerism are evident in our society. Its heritage creates a correlation between art
and artifact.
