SeekEasy (rev 8.55) download and install instructions:

Print these instructions before starting the download.

option 1: Standard method (automated Installshield install):

This method creates registry entries, automatically adds SeekEasy to the "Programs" list, and creates an "uninstall" option on the add/remove programs section of the control panel.

1. Download seekinst.exe (738K - less than 5 minutes with a 28.8 modem)
   

   START DOWNLOAD

   
   
   
2. Now that SeekEasy has been downloaded, you must run the install program: Find seekinst.exe on your hard drive (using Start -> Find -> Files or Folders), and click on it to run it.
   
   
3. It will install SeekEasy automatically, asking your permission as it does so.
   
   
4. To run SeekEasy, go to Start -> Programs -> SeekEasy ver 8.55.
   
   
5. When you've run SeekEasy and verified that SeekEasy was installed properly, you may delete the seekinst.exe file from your computer.

Option 2: If you prefer to install the program manually:

This method will not affect your registry, nor create any entries in your "Programs" list, nor add an "uninstall" option to the control panel. It just puts the software where you want it. Desktop shortcuts, etc. are up to you to create.

1. Download only one of these programs:
   
   
   • seekzip.zip 84K Zip file requiring a separate unzipping utility. You will need PKUnzip, WinZip, or similar to unzip it.

   • seekzip.exe 100K Self-extracting zip file.

2. Put the downloaded file in the folder you want the program to be in.
   
   
3. Unzip the file (or just run it, if it's the .exe file):
   --The following files will be extracted:
   • seekeasy.exe
   • seekeasy.cfg
   • seekdone.wav
   These three files must always be together in the same folder when the program is run.
   
   
4. To run SeekEasy, click on seekeasy.exe
   
   
5. Once you have verified that SeekEasy is running OK, you may delete the zip/exe file you downloaded if you wish. It's no longer needed.

Suggestion for your first search:

While the search is in progress, you can watch its progress and see what SeekEasy has found so far. Experiment with the "Show Best Match" "Show Filenames" and "Preview Top 10" buttons to learn what they will show you. If you find what you are looking for you can stop the search and view the results. Remember -when the results are shown, the item with the "best matching" text is shown first, then the next-best, and so on.
