What computers will SeekEasy run on?

SeekEasy is compatible with computers using Windows 95, 98, 98ME, XP, and NT 4.0+.
It should also run on Windows 2000 but has not been specifically tested with that operating system.

How do I get a copy of SeekEasy?

You can download an unregistered, full-featured copy from our Download page. Try it for 30 days to see if it's useful to you, then you will be asked to register it. The unregistered version will NEVER "lock you out" from using it, but it WILL remind you to register, every time you start the program up.

How do I install SeekEasy?

Print out the instructions shown on the Download page and follow them.

Note that we offer three different download/install choices: An automated Installshield version that handles installing/uninstalling,etc., or two types of do it yourself formats that won't affect your registry settings and allow you to put the files exactly where you want them.

How do I put a shortcut to SeekEasy on my desktop?

Go to Start -> Find -> Files or Folders. Type SeekEasy.exe in the "named" box, being sure that the "look in" box is set to "C".

When it finds the file, right click on it, and select "create shortcut" from the choices you are given.

May I give my friend a copy of SeekEasy?

SeekEasy is Shareware, so it's OK to give a friend an UNREGISTERED copy of SeekEasy, if you wish.

It's generally better to tell your friend to download the latest unregistered version from our website, just to ensure they have the latest version available.

REGISTERED copies of SeekEasy are licensed to one user, and may not be freely copied for your friends.

Will SeekEasy quit working if I don't register?

No. After 30 days, and more so after 60 days, it will nag you to register. But you will never be delayed more than briefly by the registration requests. You will NOT be blocked from using SeekEasy because it's not a registered copy...but the nagging WILL slowly drive you mad! :)

If you make a new revision of SeekEasy will I have to get a new registration code?

For minor revisions, no. For major revisions, yes. An explanation follows:

The revision number - shown at the top of each SeekEasy screen - is typically shown as "#.## - for example: "8.32". The "8" is the major revision, and the "32" is the minor revision. The minor revision changes each time we make any change to the code - bug-fix, small changes, adding a few new features, etc. The major revision changes when we've made a large overhaul of the software, adding significant new capabilities, etc.

Say you're a registered user, and are notified or notice that a version is available with a later minor-revision number - say you're using 8.34 and you see that 8.55 is available. Your current "registration code" will work just fine. Just download and install the later version program and then enter your registration code.

The first digit of your registration code must match the major revision number shown on the title bar of the SeekEasy program. If it does, it should work fine.

How do I transfer my personalized settings from my current version to a later version of SeekEasy?

All your settings are saved in the "seekeasy.cfg" file in your seekeasy folder. You can copy that file to the folder containing the later version.

I ordered my personalized registration code, but I got an email receipt that said something about a subscription. Did I do something wrong?

There's no problem with your registration order. We have our credit card orders handled by Internet Billing Company, Ltd. and that's what their standard receipt form says. We're hoping to get that changed.

After you receive your automated receipt we will email you your personalized registration code. We should get it to you within 24 hours. We may take a little longer on weekends.

I think I found a bug in SeekEasy. Do you want to hear about it?

YES!  Email us with as much detail as you have about the problem. We will give you feedback on your report.

We also want to know about any enhancements, improvements, clarifications, etc. you would like to see in SeekEasy! We made it like we think it should be. Now help us make it like you want it.

What can SeekEasy do that other search programs can't do?

It will find text that is "pretty close" to your requested text. It does NOT require computer-precise, perfect matching between what you type in and what's stored in the disk files. Just type what you want to find!

It finds matches without requiring you to use complicated wildcard and match-specification characters - that never seem to be the same from one program to the next. With SeekEasy, you just type in what you remember - it does the rest.

Also, it ranks the quality of the matches, and shows you the text with the most likely match words FIRST. The next-most-likely is shown SECOND. And so on.

In short, it's an INTELLIGENT seeking/matching engine.

How is SeekEasy better than the"Find" operation built intoWindows?

Its "fuzzy-match" operation.

Specifiable search paths.

Customizable to your preferences.

It shows you the actual file text, and the text around it in the file.
